Eurolux has been appointed as the sole South African distributor of HADAR UK, the hazardous area lighting division of A-Belco Hazardous. The range is designed for Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas in the oil, gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and marine industries, whilst also suitable for use in food mills which create combustible dust. Eurolux will be stocking a number of these products, with the full product range available on order from them.
Elaborating on their decision to stock HADAR products in South Africa, Shaun Bouchier, director at Eurolux, says the local and regional industry can benefit from a quality product such as this. “The HADAR range offers innovative, modular and low maintenance designs that incorporate the latest technologies, thus ensuring a comprehensive lighting product offering.” Adding that all HADAR products are ATEX and IECex certified, and that all certification and product specifications are available on the HADAR website.
The products are particularly suited to offshore oil and gas applications, whether these are fixed platforms, mobile drilling rigs or other vessels. Health and safety considerations are critical offshore, with rigs and oil vessels mostly operating in dangerously flammable environments, thus products have to withstand corrosive sea air and extreme temperatures. Maintenance is another consideration in these environments due to the high costs of shutdown; therefore engineers demand products that promise a long lamp life with simple maintenance.
Eurolux stocks the Ex emb fluorescent luminaire (HDL 100) which is available in standard 2ft, 4ft and 5ft models, including an emergency backup option. Its modular construction and built-in unistrut channel means that it can easily be fitted, in a variety of ways. “The self-contained lamp envelope enables quick and easy cleaning and allows for lamp changes to be achieved with the minimum of fuss or disruption,” says Bouchier. “It also offers long term ingress protection, the latest End of Life technology (EoL) and voltage protection (built into its electronic control gear), making it one of the most advanced fittings on the market.”
Also on offer are HADAR’s Zone 1 Ex Emb modular LED luminaire floodlight/bulkhead (HDL 106), available in 10° narrow beam, 30° medium beam, 50° wide beam angle and a 90° extra wide option. Weighing only 6kg, they can generate a similar light output to that of a much larger and heavier, high intensity discharge luminaire. These luminaires have a five year warranty, no inrush current (allowing for instant on/off), low power consumption and a life expectancy of 100,000 hours. The rugged HDL 106 is vibration resistant due to its encapsulated control gear, while its modular construction allows the modules to be ordered in a half unit, single unit or double and triple interlinked, to replicate a large 250W and 400W HID floodlight.
Another model available from Eurolux is the HADAR bulkhead luminaire (HDL 109), standard and emergency backup, as well as additional durable vinyl’s to convert these to fire exit signs, allowing wall or ceiling mounting. These come complete with two PL 18W compact fluorescent lamps for mains operation, while also offering a three hour emergency option. The lightweight bulkhead is simple to install and maintain and features short gaskets for proven ingress protection.
The HADAR Zone 1 Ex de Floodlight (HDL 117), 250W and 400W, are traditionally designed Ex de floodlights that are competitively priced. Models also on offer are 150W, 250W and 400W E40 tubular discharge lamps, as well as a 500W max tungsten halogen lamp.
A HADAR marine grade aluminium alloy floodlight (HDL 227) is also stocked by Eurolux, available in both 250W and 400W options, with high performance output and designed to withstand highly corrosive and Zone 2 hazardous area environments. This EEx nR restricted breathing floodlight features a compact design that is suitable for use with 150W, 250W and 400W high pressure sodium or metal halide tubular E40 lamps.
The HDL103 HADAR LED luminaire is available in green for helidecks, red for obstruction, or white for general lighting. This unit is available in constant light output or flashing mode, as well as 24v or 100 - 254V AC/DC, with a five year warranty and expected lamp life in excess of 10 years. It conforms to ICAO annex 14 volume II, CAP437 for helideck perimeter lighting and CAP168 for obstruction lighting, and utilises six 1.2W LEDs that provide 360 degrees coverage.
